We use only one source - the Sun. Even fossils are remains of a previous life that has existed because of the Sun. Wind is due to the Sun. Power that we gain from the food we eat is due to the Sun. We live because of this power.
The main energy sources used for generating electricity;
Hydro Electric Plants - Water
Thermal power Plants - Coal, Diesel, Natural Gas or any Hydrocarbon based fuels
Nuclear Power Plants - Nuclear Energy derived from fissile elements eg: Uranium
Solar Power plants - Solar energy
Tidal Power Plants - Tidal energy or water, principle is same as hydro electric PPs
Angel is correct, all the energy we use came from the sun at one time or another, even our geothermal energy. But immediately, all the electricity you use is produced by the burning of fossil fuels, nuclear fission, hydro-electric plants and solar and wind. The great majority of it is from burning coal which is considered a fossil fuel. Nuclear power plants only generate around 10% of what the US consumes, but that percentage is higher than what we get from wind, water and solar.
Non-renewable
1. petroleum -fossil fuel
2. natural gas -fossil fuel
3. coal -mined mineral. use to heat water to drive turbines in coal-fired thermal power plant.
Renewable
1. solar -transforming energy from the sun to electrical using solar panels
2. geothermal -uses steam beneath hot underground beds to drive the turbines of the power plant
3. hydroelectric -uses the flowing water out of a dam to drive the turbines
4. wind -uses wind to drive thousands of wind turbines
5. biofuels and biomass -uses flammable liquid (biofuel) or combustible solids (biomass) residues extracted from organic materials
6. hydrogen energy -the latest energy source. This is done by reacting hydrogen (H2) with oxygen.
7. nuclear -uses radioactive substances to superheat water which then drives the turbines
8. chemical -used in batteries. some can store charges while some produce available charges depending on the chemical reaction.
9. tidal -enclosing water during high tide and releasing them at low tide. The water flow is used to drive the turbines.
10. wood -totally unrecommended since trees while being renewable are hard to replace. the very first energy source used by humans to produce fire and heat.
Solar Energy.. Solar energy is a form of renewable energy derived from the rays of the sun. Solar cells, also known as photovoltaic devices, can change sunlight directly into electricity.
In our daily life we using solar energy mostly....
I know that the east coast has a huge coal burning plant for electricity.
I heard that u can burn chocolate to make energy :)
water
Like for power and electricity.
