You aren't really buying land that you can use yourself. It isn't land you can farm or build a house on. It doesn't even become your land. You are making a donation to World Land Trust so THEY can buy the land and ensure it is kept as natural habitat and not developed further. It is a nice idea, but in some of these countries I have read that government and/or local wealthy owners have confiscated land that belonged to local people, sometimes at gunpoint, in order to extend acreage for commercial or farming use. There is no guarantee that this could not happen where World Land Trust is operating. Not all countries are as democratic as ours.
There are still cheap land, even free land but they all lack some critical resource such as fresh water, fertile soil, good growing climate or access. Plus, one of the reasons for the land to be free or cheap is that you're required to develop it, live on it and pay taxes which would be raised because of the development done. You can get cheap or free land but it will cost you.
IF A FISH SWAM TO MARS AND LAID SOME EGGS THERE, WOULD YOU EVEN CARE??
