Is e-reading more eco-friendly than paper books?

Yes because e-books don't require a tree to be cut down, no matter how many times you open the e-book. You would likely be online for that time period anyway.

The e-readers that use electronic ink don't use energy to display a page, only to change a page, last about 4 weeks on batteries and can easily be recharged by a small solar panel. Such an e-reader would be more eco-friendly but my concern would be with the e-reader being obsolete in just three or four years. You're also about 8% slower reading an e-reader versus reading actual books.

Not quite, the amount of power that is used up every time you open an e-book for example, will in the long run result in it being less eco-friendly than owning a paper book that you will keep for sometime, unless you're talking about about disposable literature which soon after you're done reading, you have no more use for.

I found a link to some articles about that, these I have not yet taken the time to read.

I think one of the guests said with things like power use and ewaist that if you keep your device over five years it is.

the big advantage to ebook readers is all the books o project Gutenberg and indie authors being able to sell books for much lower price than limited run dead tree book.
