You can visit Mark's website to collect more information about this topic. He provide a great information regarding renewable energy. Best of luck to you.
Group discussions are about getting participation from the members in the group so you guide the discussions. One way would be to get people to list what are renewable energy and what isn't. You'll undoubtedly wind up with biomass, solar, wind, hydro, wave, tidal and geothermal as renewable and gasoline, diesel, natural gas and coal as not renewable. You can then get people to break down each of the renewable to determine what is really the source of energy. It should break down as solar energy for biomass, solar, wind, hydro and wave. Geothermal is from the heat within the Earth and the radioactive decay of Uranium and Thorium inside the Earth's mantle. You can then get them to break down fossil fuels as well which should also be solar as fossil fuels are just ancient biomass. You can then start a discussion as to if both fossil fuels and most renewables are really solar then what is it that makes one renewable and the other not, what makes one good for the environment and the other not. You can also guide them into a discussion of how fossil fuels and biomass are just chemically stored energy just as batteries are so what makes electric cars good and gasoline cars not so good. You can also ask if gasoline and diesel have to be from fossil reserves, couldn't we just make them from any energy source just as we can charge batteries with solar or wind power and of course the answer is that we can but many people don't realize that
Absolutely. Renewable energy is basically energy that replenishes quicker than we can generally consume, or is available in abundant amounts. It is not to be confused with "alternative energy," which includes all sources of energy outside of fossil fuels. For example, nuclear energy is alternative but not renewable, because it replaces veeeeery slowly.
There are many common types of renewable energy:
Solar: Energy from the sun. Harnessed through solar panels. They are advantageous because sunlight is available almost anywhere. But they also take up a lot of space if you want to harness a lot.
Geothermal: Heat from inside the earth. Advantageous because it is abundant in large quanities, but there are only certain locations where you can access it, because to get it you have to be pretty far underground.
Hydroelectricity and Wind Harnesses: Energy from the kinetic motion of water and winds. Harnessed through wind turbines, windmills, and dams. Good because it is readily available, and we can pretty much guarantee there are always wind/water currents around the world somewhere. However, dams and wind harnesses can destroy aesthetic beauty as well as ecosystems.
Biomass: Energy from pre-decayed organic matter such as your leftovers, or dead plants. Good because it can greatly reduce our landfill/trash amount. However, this type of renewable energy is the only one that does still produce CO2.
Hope I helped.

I have to do a group discussion on renewable energy next week and im kind of struggling on what and how to research. Basically the lecturer is messing us about. She keeps taking days off sick which is resulting in us cramming sh*t loads of work for assesments that are days away with little preperation. I dont have a clue on how to plan, research or even do a group discussion. I dont know what you have to talk about, how to start it off etc etc. Ive never done a group discussion before. Can any one shed some light on this topic please. I dont even have a clue on renewable energy. We picked it because everyone said it would be easy. I got home and researched it and im actually clueless. Does anyone know of any sites eyc that would be of much help? :)
cheers.
