If you are wearing the proper size thong, than you shouldn't even feel it going up your butt at all. If it's noticeable, then it's too small.

Good and OK idea. I also use ladies panties some time. I had a personal collection of about 50 bra-panty sets (including lingeire/slip/petticoats/long gowns/thongs in different styles, colours, makes what not) before some years. With no addition over last few months, this number has gone to only 10 sets but i have large affinity towards it.
