What should I charge for painting?

Well , i have worked for myself as handyman and painter.

I cant believe you started a job with no idea what you are going to charge for the job.

Doing things like that can only lead to problems.

But , what i always did . Was estimate how long it would take me to do the job.

Then add my matl`s that you dont have. other than rollers.

Then multiply that by how much per hour you expect to earn. And that is what you charge.

You know how long it takes you , so why dont you just do the math ?

it is simple Hours times $ = total.

Many years ago , i used $20 and hour for my labor and marked up matl`s 15 % .

I am an experienced painter. I been working for a painting company for 6 years and now decided to work on my own. But since I was getting paid by the hour I dont know how much to charge. Any ways I took this job about 24 rooms in a nursing house. Every room is about 600 square feet walls (one small bathroom and one closet included) And 2 door frames. No ceilings. Walls are in ok condition it need light patching and sanding. Nothing to cover up since there is no carpet yet nor furniture. I already started it and I finished 2 rooms in one day about 9 hours by myself . (If matters it took 3 gallons of paint each room) . The owner is buying all the material other than brushes and rollers so no need for a material estimate only labor. I will appreciate any help. What would be a good amount for each room? The lowest and the highest? Thanks. ( I live in Nebraska)
