What is RentTrack?

Posted at: 2014-09-26
I wouldn't pay someone to look at their property to rent. That sounds strange.

RentTrack is an online rent payment service. We provide a way for residents to report their rent to major credit bureaus to build credit history. We also set up property managers to collect rent payments online.

The individual and situation you are referring too, Christopher Mayer, Christopher Schuster or some other name, in unfortunately a scammer using our good name. Please read the below post for additional details as you will see they use a variety of legitimate companies, fake their identity, provide the passport, fake documents, and then attempt to scam via MoneyGram.

Smart of you to post and ask - always be aware of scammers when it comes to any payment service and check directly with the source.

This is a scam.

It is illegal in most places to ask for money before allowing a prospective tenant to view the rental place. Run like hell. Never touch something that asks for YOUR money to be sent to them or to a supposed third party prior to viewing.

It sounds like they are a middleman between you and the landlord. You send them the rent, they record it, and forward it to the landlord so the landlord doesn't have to deal with it. Most likely they take a small percentage for themselves. But as far as giving them money before they show you the property, I don't know. In all of the rentals I have had, no one ever wanted me to pay to see the property. I don't trust this one.

Hi. Thanks for reading.

I looked at this apartment for rent the other day and contacted the owner. They responded via email stating that they work away and we cannot meet in person, and all transactions would be done via something called "RentTrack.com".

I have never heard of it before, and although he sent me a copy of a passport picture, they are still asking for money to view the property (I guess so I don't just steal the keys?) but I'm not sure how trusting I should be.

Apparently RentTrack won't hand over the money without my consent, so if I view the apartment and don't like it, my money will be returned to me.

I'm just a little unsure about it all. If anyone can help, or knows anyone that can help, that would be great!!!

Thanks a lot!!!
