WHAT IS CORRECT BED FRAME DIMENSION FOR FULL SIZE MATTRESS?

I bought an old oak bed headboard, foot board and rails. there are not slats or brackets so that I can properly set it up but when I measured it, the headboard is 58 inches from rail insert to rail insert and the rails are 78 inches long (not including the wood rail inserts). THIS SEEMS A LITTLE WIDE AND LONG FOR A FULL AND TOO SMALL FOR A QUEEN. I don't know much about beds. Perhaps the extra room is needed for bedding. Somebody give me a clue before I buy a mattress!

It takes a full size mattress.Size would be 54x75
