Soundproofing?

Sound can travel through tiniest hole or crack. It can also be amplified by a vibrating plate like your large windows.Reducing sound intrusion into your suite will be a major job but it can be done. Start by installing weather stripping tightly around the doors to seal up those cracks. Use latex caulking to caulk heavily around any of the windows that don't open. Caulk every tiny opening you can find and look carefully.

Next turn your attention to t he giant bay windows and glass balcony doors. They are vibrating with the sound and amplifying it into your room. Anything you can do to disrupt the vibration will help. Heavy draperies will do a great deal to muffle the sound but will also block your light. To disrupt vibration in the windows, I would try decorative tape XX across, and sun-blocking film which will help keep your place cooler and restrict vibration of the glass. Various "novelty" decals stuck to the glass will also slow the vibration.

Finally "white noise" will help. Buy a cd of ocean sounds and play it on your stereo; experiment to get the volume right. Aim your stereo speakers at the center of the glass.

I need to soundproof my apartment. I live in eduador, thus the walls are all solid brick. I am on a very busy street with motorcycles and large diesel buses going by constantly. Most of the sound come through the giant bay windows and glass balcony doors that have plate glass as thin as paper and gaps in the doors that I cannot fix with out replacing them (a very expensive endeavor to be sure). How can I fix the sound (currently averaging at 50 db or higher) so that I can have a peaceful afternoon without having to count how many buses go by my door? I cannot even have a conversation in my own living room. I have heard of sheets that you stick on windows for this, but I have not been able to find anything like that online. Can anyone please help me?
