I bought a house with hardwood floors that go throughout, it's all the same wood. But i don't know ANYTHING about them, and it's proving very frustrating to try and figure out. How can i tell first off what KIND of wood my hardwood is? It seems to have a poly coat because it's shiny and I can't scrape gunk or scuff marks off. The floor has some scratches that I'd like to correct but I don't know HOW to tell if I have water base or oil based poly? Is there a way I can find out? The previous owners were very elderly, one passed away and the other lives with family far away and is in her 90s, it's a little too late to ask cause I doubt the family would know. I don't even know who would've installed it or the manufacturer name. Does anyone know how I can possibly trace this information back?
