Drywall anchors for a hollow door?

The anchors won't hold in a hollow door. I had a similar situation, but I needed to hang pegs for hanging coats. What I did was got a short piece of 1x6 pine, routed the edges nice, stained it , then applied construction to the back side of it and screwed that to the door. I don't know how your rack is laid out, but I feel if you attach a backer board, with glue, to the hollow door, you could attach the rack to that.

Don't use drywall anchors.

For a light load like pan lids, "molly bolts" would be good on a hollow door. See this page:

and be sure you buy molly bolts, not toggle bolts. Probably the smallest size you can find.

My mother purchased a rack to hang pan lids on and wants to hang it on the back of our pantry door. The door is hollow and the only included hardware was screws, and standard plastic drywall anchors. Do I need to drill the holes and use the drywall anchors, or should I only use the screws with no anchors. Please note these Re glass pan lids and probably weight ~20lbs altogether.

Try toggle bolts. They come in various diameters and the smallest will do. You will need to first cut it off to the proper length and you will need to be certain the space inside the door cavity is enough to let it expand. A typical interior door is 1 3/8" outside thickness so the inside cavity will be slightly under 1" When collapsed your toggle will need to be less than 1" which is easily doable. The hole you drill will be large enough for the toggle to fit in so whatever piece you are attaching will cover the hole plus you have "wiggle" room to level it. Be certain to assemble it in the proper order!!!! Here is a link to toggle bolts: http://www.bing.com/search?FORM=U157ID&P... If uncertain take a sample piece of thin wood or even a piece of cardboard and mock up the assembly before you actually use it so you see how it works. Novice mistake is to put the toggle in backwards. You want the expanded toggle to pull against the inside of the door skin when the screw is turned.

Use the type that have small metal piece that pulls flat on inside of door when screw is tightened. Keep in mind how heavy what your hanging is as door is most likely fiber board 1/8 inch thick. Z.K.

And the question is ??????????????
