Did my early transplanting of an endless summer hydrangea completely kill the plant, or will it root?

Don't give up on it it may not do much but survive this year.Chances are its not dead it has transplant shock. It needs shade so hope you didn't plant in sun.Water it well and often. And wait. And if it lives DO NOT prune it this fall.

It may survive but what you should have done is take several cuttings off it first and potted them, then moved the plant. That way you have several chances of getting a healthy plant.

I always go by my father's advice. Wait and see what happens. Don't overwater it, 1" per week no matter what you think and see if it rallys. If not, it cost you nothing, so no loss.

if she didn't get enough tap root, it will die.

otherwise, give it some water and keep the dirt in the container moist.

When revived, think about where you want to plant it.

A friend of mine was getting rid of her endless summer hydrangea plant a few weeks ago, and she brought it to me looking very wilted. I am a novice gardener at best, and I planted it and staked around it for support. Now it looks awful, completely wilted and the leaves are drying up. I want to know if the roots would still be growing or if the plant is dead. I don't want to pull it out if it might come back up next year. It had been healthy before she pulled it up and it was just starting to bud, but she didn't keep much of the roots intact. I would love for someone to be able to tell me if it's too late for this plant!
