We have a major bedbug infestation. They are all over the house - I even see them in our bathroom! Unfortunately I cannot afford an exterminator at this time. I about maxed out my credit card buying mattress covers and metal bed frames so that we can throw out our old box springs and wooden bed frames. (Not a big loss since the wooden bed frames were literally falling apart.)
Our plan is to:
- bag and box up everything we can
- cover the mattresses
- spray the bed frames and dust with diatomaceous earth
- set the beds up 6 inches away from the walls and stuff
- dust the floor under the beds with more d-earth
- try to rid bugs from our couch
- stay out of the house as much as possible, and when we do come home stay on the bug-free beds
This plan sounds exhausting to me. (Especially the staying away from home as much as possible.) But it will be worth it if we could be bug-free by summer, or at least by July 4. ... Do y'all think it will work? I read on one site that in warm conditions they starve in 3 or 4 months. Will the d-earth really keep them from climbing back in bed if I sprinkle it thick around the legs?
